Acne Management Protocol

A targeted regimen designed to address the four pillars of acne pathogenesis: excess sebum production, follicular hyperkeratinization, C. acnes colonization, and inflammation.

Core Mechanisms

Acne is an inflammatory disease. Aggressive physical exfoliation and harsh alcohol-based toners exacerbate inflammation. This protocol focuses on chemical exfoliation (to clear the pore) and anti-inflammatory action.

AM: Exfoliation & Protection

  • 1. BHA Cleanser 2% Salicylic Acid. Leave on for 1-2 minutes before rinsing. BHA is lipid-soluble and penetrates sebum.
  • 2. Lightweight Hydration Gel-based moisturizer containing Niacinamide (reduces sebum production).
  • 3. Non-Comedogenic SPF Crucial to prevent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) from healing acne lesions.

PM: Treatment Phase

  • 1. Gentle Cleanser Remove makeup/SPF with a non-stripping, low pH (5.5) cleanser.
  • 2. Adapalene 0.1% A synthetic retinoid specifically formulated to target acne receptors in the skin. Start every other night.
  • 3. Barrier Support Simple, ceramide-based moisturizer to offset retinoid irritation.

The Purge

When beginning Adapalene or BHA, existing microcomedones will surface rapidly. This "purge" lasts 4-6 weeks and is a sign the active is working. Do not stop treatment during this phase.
